Main responsibilities:

  • Update and run complex project finance-based asset models for operating assets and assets under construction, incorporating adjustments for balance sheets, performance metrics, construction timelines, valuations, and returns.
  • Assist in designing group-wide consolidated models for operating assets, ensuring alignment with long-term incentive plans.
  • Convert investment case models into operational models post-construction, tracking actuals against initial projections.
  • Provide training and coaching to local asset teams regarding their respective models.
  • Support the annual three-year business plan models and align inputs with longer-term valuation models for each asset.
  • Engage with lenders on disbursement requests, waivers, distributions, and reporting obligations.
  • Conduct investment analysis on the existing asset portfolio, including appraisals of asset improvements and capital expenditure programs.
  • Contribute to Investment Committee and Board Papers as required.
  • Support corporate valuation exercises, including calculations related to long-term incentive plans and shareholder investment valuations.
  • Provide ad-hoc analytical support, including market and competitor research, to aid business planning and valuation processes.

The Asset Financial Modeler position is pivotal to the company’s success as it continues to expand its footprint across Africa. This role is focused on preparing, developing, and maintaining financial models for operating assets, assets under construction, and overall corporate valuation. The position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex project finance models, support lender obligations post-financial close, and contribute to the company’s strategic goals.

As an Asset Financial Modeler, you will play a critical role in monitoring performance, returns, and valuations across the business, ensuring alignment with long-term plans and investment strategies. This position provides exposure to high-impact projects, collaboration with local asset teams, and opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Skills/experience required:

  • At least three years of experience building and reviewing financial models for project finance, complex transactions, or asset valuations.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: power industry, project finance, or business valuation.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including advanced Excel proficiency (VBA and financial modeling best practices).
  • Solid knowledge of financial statements and experience in reviewing, preparing, and analyzing them.
  • Accounting qualification, MBA, or comparable financial certification is essential.
  • Presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively in formal and informal settings.
  • Commercial awareness, cultural sensitivity, and structured planning abilities.
  • Previous experience in African markets is desirable but not mandatory.
